Gary C. Brannan, chaplain from MCL USS Oregon Detachment, was named Marine of the Year at the Department of Oregon’s Summer Convention.
Brannan was honored not only for his participation in but his coordination of the many community events and activities of the Department. To name a few, he is the Detachment representative for the Marine Corps Coordinating Council, he presents the Officer Sword to the top NROTC Marine graduate at Oregon State University, and on Memorial Day, Brannan helps to read the 806 names of fallen Oregonians and POW/MIAs. He also organizes seven Marine units for the Hillsboro 4th of July and Veterans Day Parades and has served on approximately 125 funerals, providing Military Honors with the 1st Marine Division Honor Guard.
